Inspired by London’s infamous psychiatric hospital, BEDLAM is a new bar located at 40 Avenue C in Manhattan’s East Village, opened by Benjamin Maisani and Pablo Raimondi.
Bedlam’s decor -conceived by Sean Scherer of Kabinett & Kammer- honors the late
19th-century gentleman's club/ parlor: think Robert Louis Stevenson and Edith
Wharton. The walls have been papered in Victorian era novels and dictionaries and
furnished with a collection of anatomical prints from the period, cases of oddities
and curios, old leather-bound books and artifacts of natural history. Expect a menagerie of taxidermy as well as various other objects of fascination. The new bar evokes the grandiosity of 19th-century parlor life, while paying homage to the literary, scientific and artistic pursuits of the age.
